Pictoral Wonderfulness

is wonderfulness a word, probably not... ahh well

these we my two favorites from the Festival of Quilts this year in the pictorial category, I have never tried this technique before and to tell the truth it is probably because it must take meticulous planning

The first is by a Norwegian quilter called Bente Kultorp Andresen, she was not at the festival but a friend of hers was and was talking to me briefly about how Bente works

rubbish camera skills, this is blurry the close ups show a better level of detail
she starts with a photograph and section by section she cuts and sews down the layers of fabric to match the photograph then over quilts the whole picture

she dyes her own materials to match the colours

the second is by Jane Appelbee who again byes her won fabrics and raw edge appliques to achieve this stunningly realistic picture

and the winner is...

hi all

thanks so much for entering the giveaway, it is now half ten in the evening here in London and I have had a busy weekend so far

had a stall at the Wonder Hill market (near Borough Market) yesterday and met lots of lovely people, had to stop myself buying lots from the other stalls, I traded some of the spotty bunting for two pairs of earrings so technically did not spend any money!!

did the random number thing which gave me

comment 12...

which is BECKY

well done I will be emailing you shortly

it is public holiday tomorrow and so will have a chance to get into the sewing room and get creative so stay posted for the next giveaway coming soon

Sunday Sewing Giveaway

after a few very busy weeks I have managed to get a good days sewing in HOOORAAYYYYY

but first an update...

Watford 20th Aug
taking my wares to the public

had a stand at the Queens Road Summer Market yesterday, all started off sunny on but then the heavens opened and the sales dried up, met some lovely people and had lots of chats about crafting and as Watford council provided us with very effective gazebos we all stayed dry!

spend just about every night this week making bunting, could cover my whole house in this, made very good use of some of the vintage pillowcases I keep picking up in charity shops and some great spotty material I picked up at the NEC

spotty bunting
1950/60's pillowcase bunting

ooodles of bunting made this week

in the garden on this lovely sunny afternoon

so as I have a basket full of them I have decided that I will give some away to one of my lovely blog followers, all you have to do is comment below which you would prefer, the vintage or the spotty (make sure you are a follower) and I will pick a winner at random next Sunday

good luck

A record breaking Czech quilt...

I was completely blown away by this massive quilt over 6 meters long and 2 meters high (24 feet x 6 feet) it was the individual blocks were made by 178 quilters from all over the Czech Republic and then finished by only 6 women from the Ostrava Quilting Bee lead by Mrs Dana Brezinova

The sheer scale of it was amazing I cannot imagine how much it weighs!

the quilt is now in the Guinness Book of World Records!

there are pictures of an event they held and the making of the quilt here

one of my favorites is the line of people carrying it onto a stage all rolled up looks like a everyone had a great day

please do visit the site http://www.patchwork-cz.com/ the galleries are very interesting even if you cannot understand the text!

first I thought that I would just start posting up some of the outstanding quilts that blew me away!

from the 1000's of quilts displayed I managed to take pictures of around 70 that really stood out for me I will be looking at some of them in more detail, I have the catalogue so will be posting credits etc over the coming week

London riots too close for comfort...

An interesting week in London to say the least, very strange atmosphere in my local area, more police than I have ever seen in the area and all the shops shutting at lunchtime and everyone staying indoors in the evenings the sound of sirens lulling us to sleep...

A friend had her small baby shop completely destroyed in Ealing on Monday it really is the small business owners that will be hardest hit when they have their businesses destroyed by this mindless violence
lots of police at the end of my street and shops shut up
Am very thank full that Kilburn has remained relatively calm!

only shop on the high road to have been smashed up so far!

A great day at the Boogaloo

I arrived at ten to eleven prompt to set up my stall, thought i was inside but was very pleased with my courtyard spot, under cover right next to the entrance to capture passers by!

next time I am going to bring a bigger cloth to cover the whole table but had brought the right amount of stock and to my delight, sold one of my quilts... very happy about that

chatted to lots of people about the block printing and had some lovely feedback about the products, will be going back for more on the 3rd sept YAY
